PILOT #2 !!!

Hi friends,

I have some Centos in the new issue of Pilot. I hope you'll get a chance to read 'em. You can go directly to them from here and while you're there be sure to check out the entire issue. It's pretty astonishing. See the announcement about the new issue from Pilot co-eds. Betsy Wheeler and Dean Gorman below.

All best,

Matt

“Go down any road far enough and you’ll
come to a slaughter house, but keep going and you’ll reach the sea.”

Until I started a new job last month, that lone phrase was written on one of my business cards and taped to my computer for more than 7 years. It gave me hope when we were reporting on things like a family of 5, shot to death upon returning home from the Lake Junaluska summer Fair. (The "sea" in that horrible story for me were was the last words of the father, to his killer, just before he was gunned down: "God bless you, son.")

You know I love Dean (whose love you snagged before I ever could!). He reads at Warren Wilson July 11. Since his birthday is 2 days before mine in July, I may bring him a cupcake...

Melissa,

I'm glad that quote resonates with you, too.

Do take Dean a cupcake. And when you give it to him, tell him you were trying to make a poem, not a spongy thing with icing. Then ask him to eat it in front of you.
