((By the by, I should mention that I'm NOT one of those diehard Radiohead nuts. In general, I think their stuff is fairly hit and miss, and that a huge part of why everyone thinks they're so amazing is simply because they're a mainstream band that walks a fine line between being too unlistenably weird for the mainstream and too mainstream to be (even remotely) unlistenably weird. Nevertheless, this new record is fantastic, start to finish and even on repeat.

Also, the way they've decided to deliver this record (sans label support and via download from their website) is a huge smack (and I don't mean a James Schuyler-like kiss) in the face of the record industry. Of course, tons of bands, including my own Travel, do this everyday (all of our CDs are available for Free download from our site), but it's the fact that Radiohead is Radiohead that makes this so significant. Hooray for them.

HEY MATT I AGREE WITH YOU ( TO SOME DEGREE) ABOUT THE NEW R.H. RECORD, BUT I DON'T THINK YOUR ASSESSMENT OF THE EARLIER WORK (IN PARTICULAR: THE BENDS & OK COMPUTER) IS TO FAIR.

WHAT ELSE ARE YOU LISTENING TO?

I am also listening to the new Thurston Moore, which I like but don't love, Boulevard De L'Independence by Toumani Diabate's Symmetric Orchestra, which hits the spot, and Ornette Coleman's 1972 symphonic free-jazz masterpiece, The Skies of America. Beyond this, I still listen to The Blood Brothers' Young Machete's 3 or 4 times a week. And beyond that, my iPod set to random...
